The United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers Local No. 2 is always training skilled craftsmen for the public and roofing industry through our Roofing Apprenticeship Program. If you are 18 years old and live in St. Louis, Western or Southwestern Illinois, or Eastern Missouri, and are interested in learning more about roofing and waterproofing, the Local No. 2’s program may be for you. Roofing and Waterproofing Job Duties
Roofing and Waterproofing job duties include, but are not limited to the following tasks:

  • Repairing roofs
  • Applying hot and cold built-up roofing
  • Applying various single-ply roofing systems
  • Installing shingle, tile and slate roofs
  • Waterproofing foundations and plaza decks
  • Lining ponds and tanks
  • Removal of roofs


Earn While You Learn
Our roofing apprenticeship program lets you earn money while you learn the trade of roofing and waterproofing. Effective March 1, 2023, the starting rate is $20.35 per hour plus annual pay raises and Union Benefits. Upon completion of the Local No. 2’s Roofing Apprenticeship Program, your credit hours are applied to an Associates Degree.

The United Union of Roofers, Waterproofers and Allied Workers Local No. 2 offers excellent roofing training through our Apprenticeship Training Program.

To apply for the program, you must:

  • Be 18 years of age
  • Have a high school diploma or GED Certificate
  • Complete the International Union Application
  • Be ready to learn the trade


Roofers begin as apprentices and receive on-the-job roofing training. After working 600 hours, they receive additional instruction, both in the classroom and on-the-job, while receiving union wages.

Apprentices attend classes in the winter months. The apprenticeship pay rate will increase with your skills and time in the program. Upon completion of the program, you will receive Journeyman Certification and are then eligible for union journeyman wages.
